December 2008, member companies of the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) agreed
to the goal of using at least 50% recycled glass in the manufacture of new
glass bottles and jars by 2013.
Glass containers are 100% recyclable, which is just one more
reason why glass is a truly sustainable package. But getting a clean, abundant
supply of recycled glass to “close the loop” and make new bottles and jars is a
persistent challenge for the North American glass container industry.
