ABK Group to Produce Large-Format Tile
Italian tile producer ABK will enter the large-format market following a major plant upgrade.
A new Sacmi line for the production of large tile will be installed at the ABK Group Industrie Ceramiche S.p.A. plant in Solignano, Italy. This line consists of Continua+ compaction technology and the EKO ceramic kiln. The production line being supplied to ABK will be the firm’s main investment in 2016. It is expected to become operational this summer. The plant is fed by a Sacmi Continua+ line, which reportedly overcomes the productivity limits posed by large sizes and allows for variation of aesthetic effects by offering plenty of scope for customization.
Completing the system is an EKO kiln, which, with a 2.95 m inlet and an overall length of 185 m, reportedly has the largest internal surface area ever installed in Italy. The kiln also features advanced technical solutions that reduce environmental impact and energy consumption of 20% lower fume volumes compared to a traditional kiln and 25% less consumption during production gaps. Self-recovery burners and precise firing reportedly curve control to minimize temperature variations inside the firing chamber.
The plant will allow for the production of up to 11,000 sq m of ceramic tile per day from the new line, bringing the factory’s total daily output to over 20,000 sq m. The line will allow production of tile from 80 x 80 cm up to 160 x 320 cm, and a 6-20 mm thickness range.
