Zircoa recently announced that it was visited by U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and Mary Ann Pacelli from Cleveland’s Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET) to discuss how the company has implemented the Veterans Opportunity to Work (VOW) to Hire Heroes Act of 2011.
Senator Brown was an original cosponsor of the VOW Act, which provides transition for service members, expands education and training opportunities for veterans, and provides tax credits for employers who hire veterans with service-connected disabilities.
Zircoa currently employs 23 veterans, more than 20% of its workforce. Jason Haffner, a veteran and Zircoa’s plant manager, and Ronne Proch, president and CEO, met with the senator and Pacelli to discuss VOW and how its tax credits have encouraged Zircoa to potentially hire up to five more veterans.
“Zircoa is a proof of concept for the worthiness of VOW,” Proch said. “We love our veterans, not only for their sacrifices in the military, for us all, but also as proving themselves outstanding members of Zircoa’s team. Senator Brown and Ms. Pacelli’s visit and their words to us demonstrate Zircoa’s initiatives to hire veterans are a model not only for a great workforce but also for a strong nation.”
